In this tutorial, we'll show you how to create an adorable cake topper featuring a couple of sweet bunnies painting an Easter egg. Not only will you learn how to make this cute and simple cake topper, but we'll also show you how to create a lovely picket fence design around the sides.
This cake would be perfect for Easter gatherings, or you can remove the Easter Egg and make a change here and there for an adorable spring birthday or baby shower cake. I love cute bunnies on cakes no matter what time of year! :0)
We hope that you enjoy the video!
Our cake in this video is an 8 inch tier, frosted with our fluffy vanilla buttercream recipe (tinted with Americolor Avocado Green + a touch of Leaf Green). As usual, it is on it's own cardboard cake circle cut down to size.
Piping Tips: Grass Tip 233, Tip 2, 3, 4 (any of the small tips are fine for the small flowers),
Coloring Gel Pen (We used a black food writer pen for the eyes)
Coloring Gels: Americolor Avocado Green, Leaf Green, Deep Pink, Lemon Yellow, Sky Blue
Gum Paste for bunnies (if you don't have gum paste, you can also knead tylose powder into fondant for a similar result) - We used about 160 g.
Fondant for picket fence (approximately 150g)
Toothpick/Floral wire/ Lollipop Sticks- (We used toothpicks) - Use your anchors of choice
Pink Petal Dust (optional) for rosy cheeks & ears
Vodka or everclear to create "paint" for the egg
Rice Cereal Treats (for the egg) - We used four 22g. bars
small flower cutters (for flowers on hat- optional)
sugar pearls (optional) - used as flower centers on hat
Miscellaneous- Small paint brushes, piping gel (or your food-safe adhesive of choice)
I used an FMM Multi-Ribbon Cutter (affiliate) to cut my fondant strips for the fence--I use this tool often for creating bows or stripes also!
