    Sweet Snowman Family Cake~ Quick Cake Decorating Video Tutorial!

    Tis the season for ADORABLE snowman themed cake designs! I love decorating my cakes (not to mention my house) with sweet snowmen decorations. They couldn't be simpler to create, and there are so many fun details that can be added for an added touch color and personality.

    Sheet cakes are a great choice for parties because they are so easy to slice and serve, but the larger "canvas" can sometimes be a challenge to fill! That's one reason that I love this cake design. We've piped snowmen all the way across, and the sheet cake allows us to see all of the snowmen at once, rather than wrapped around the side of the cake.

    Come along with me for a speedy look at the cake decorating process behind this SWEET snowman themed sheet cake. This snow family cake design is cheerful, colorful, and very simple to create in buttercream! Keep this idea in mind for your winter and Christmas parties, and have fun personalizing the design to fit your family or friends (maybe even add a snow dog or cat!)  -- Enjoy!

    Notes:

    This is a single 11x15 sheet cake, frosted with our fluffy vanilla buttercream recipe {from the Recipes section}

    Piping Tips: I used a Wilton 1 for piping the eyes, mouth, and strand of lights.  I used a Wilton 3 for all other small details (including lights, scarves, hats, carrot notes, snow, etc.).  I used a Wilton 12 for the ball border & snowmen.

    I am using a crusting vanilla buttercream. After the frosting crusts (approx 10 minutes after applying) you can smooth any places you'd like with a Viva paper towel (Viva has no impressions).  I lightly smoothed the snowman faces before piping on the eyes, nose, & mouth as well as the blue sky background before piping the snowmen.

    Colors used:  Americolor Super Black, Super Red, Orange, Lemon Yellow, Mint Green. Sky Blue

    Sparkling Sugar (optional)

      Melissa and BeBe--This cake is absolutely adorable! So fun! Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year! Thank you for all you bring to us!

      On a different note, I wanted to ask you something...while learning, have you ever ruined a cake for a client? Reason I'm asking is because I never had...til lasthe month. I had a nautical cake for a client's dad who was retired from the navy. I had already made the anchor ahead of time. I added to the cake a few mins before delivery and it fell in transit...and broke in two! Should have added at venue. The cake also was not level (not sure what I did wrong there). So I felt awful...and still feel awful. How do I get past it? I haven't made a cake since because my confidence is down...how do I get past it? I love making cakes but I never bombed before. My mother (who is not experienced) said she believes you can't learn until you have that happen. She thinks it has happened to everyone at one time or another...I just don't believe it! I just need words from experienced decorators...how can I get over this feeling and move on?

      For some reason my cake didn't go together quite as fast as yours! Lol! But it was lots of fun, I used a leftover round layer from the freezer and leftover icing from a previous cake...Merry Christmas to all!

      Haha Dene, the secret to my fast-moving decorating in the video is lots of coffee, lol. Your cake is precious! Love that you made the design. Merry Christmas!

      @Terri -Thanks for your kind words and Merry Christmas to you! As for your cake mishap, your mom is right, I would imagine that every experienced cake decorator knows exactly what you are feeling! I've had cakes fall apart, slide, etc. during transit. Don't beat yourself up over it! It's a learning experience and I'm sure that the cake was delicious. Think of all of the cake decorating shows where professional decorators go through these same experiences. I'm sure that your customer hasn't given it a second thought. I'm sorry that this happened, but the sooner you start decorating again, the sooner you will feel better!! Sending hugs to you!! xoxo
