Hi all - I made a huge and embarrassing mistake today but learned something from it that I thought I'd share. I made a birthday cake for my son's friend - no theme, just simply decorated. While driving to the party, it hit me that I wrote "happy 11th birthday" on the cake when it should've been "10th birthday"!!! I just about died. I was too far from home to go back to fix it. I stopped at a grocery store, took the cake into the bakery, and explained the situation to the sweet bakery clerk and asked for help. She suggested I lift off the number with a twist tie - you know, the things you tie plastic bags with. I've never heard of this but of course, was willing to try anything. Btw, the icing on my cake was cream cheese so I didn't think it would lift off cleanly but it worked!! Twist ties - what a brilliant idea!!! She had icing that was a bit darker blue than what I used but I really didn't care...I was just so grateful. I changed it to "10" and it wasn't perfect, was darker than the rest of the piping but whew!! what a save!!
Just thought I would share my story and the tip! :)
