1. Why should I join when I can find cake decorating videos and tutorials online for free?
MyCakeSchool.com is a one-of-a-kind cake decorating instruction experience. People join my site for the same reason that they might take a decorating class or buy a video….because either they want the added attention that a teacher can provide, or they want to learn specific skills that a video promises. But did you know that for around the same price of one video or a 4-5 lesson at a local craft store, you can buy a membership to MyCakeSchool and have access to 100 times the amount of information for an entire year? Sure, you can find lots of tutorials floating around online, but finding what you are looking for is no easy task and often involves weeding through dozens of mediocre,or even poorly made videos. When you do find what you are looking for, the person who posted the video is often unavailable to answer questions. That is the difference–Not only am I here to help, but you will find that we have a community of helpful and experienced cake decorators as well.
With a My Cake School membership, you will have access to all of our videos, recipes, our message boards, and member photo gallery. Scroll through the Blog or the photo carousel to see some of the cakes that I have made in video tutorials for the site.
We have many talented decorators as members, and others who are just starting out. Have a video request? Just let me know and I will add it to our list. We put out a new video 2-3 times a month–which also sets us apart from other online schools (which are often around $20/month—as compared to our $30/year!) — We’ve made our memberships so affordable because we want our members to stay active for more than just a month or two. We are building a wonderful, positive atmosphere for cakers to learn and share.
2. What is the membership fee?
Membership is only $30 for a full year. Think of it as a magazine subscription, only it is interactive and offers so much more information on a weekly basis rather than a monthly basis. You will find that the membership pays for itself almost immediately. If you are accustomed to buying your cakes from bakeries, knowing how to make your own cakes will save you hundreds of dollars a year. If you have a cake business, the decorating techniques that you will learn here (from the basics to fondant and gum paste work) will give you the tools to grow your business, and to charge more for your cakes!
3. What online tutorials are available for members to watch?
Mycakeschool.com has nearly 200 VIDEOS! Depending on the level of difficulty, some videos are as short as 10 minutes, but most are closer to 30 or 40 minutes. I add new videos several times a month, and am constantly drawing from members’ suggested topics.

4. Will I have to pay more money in order to see the entire video?
No, videos in the tutorial section are complete videos that will allow you to fully grasp the techniques being demonstrated. This is what sets us apart from some of the other online cake schools. We currently have nearly 200 posted videos, and we have many, many more videos scheduled for posting. Once a video is posted to our library, it stays there permanently. So, new members will not have missed anything!
5. Who makes the videos?
My name is Melissa Diamond and I have run a very successful cake business from my home for years. I recently decided to focus on MyCakeSchool.com full time!I make most of the videos, with the help of BeBe, who runs the camera and also makes some videos of her own. BeBe is our baking and frosting expert, and also visits the Message Boards often to offer advice.
You may find that some decorators are reluctant to share all of their secrets. This is not the case for me. Since cake instruction is my one and only job, I want to share EVERYTHING with you. It makes me so happy to hear success stories from members after trying out techniques that they have learned on the site.
6. Can I cancel at any time?
Yes, memberships are $30/year, and renew annually. However, at any time during the year, you can follow the instructions posted in our Member FAQ section to cancel the renewal (or you can contact me directly.) –Due to the nature of our site, we do not give refunds (except in rare cases of compatibility issues or for members who forget to cancel their auto-renew and no longer wish to be a member.)
7. What if my computer is not compatible with the videos?
If you have ANY trouble viewing videos upon joining, contact us for advice. If we cannot help you, you will receive a refund. The same goes for gift memberships.
8. Can I buy a gift membership for someone?
Yes! A Gift Membership is the perfect gift for anyone who loves cake decorating, anyone who has a creative or crafty streak, or even moms or dads who may want to decorate for their children. Look for the GIFT MEMBERSHIP button in the right side bar!
9. $30 for a year’s worth of access to 200 video tutorials (and counting) sounds too good to be true. What’s the catch?

Hi Ann–I can e-mail you a PayPal invoice, which has the option of joining through credit card without actually opening a PayPal account.

Hi Sharon, thanks for your interest. The $30. USD fee that can be paid through Paypal will give you access to more than 150 video tutorials to watch as many times as you would like during the year. You would also have access to the member photo gallery and the message boards. Click on the paypal button for more instructions. Let us know if you have other questions.
I see several cute ideas on your site but do you do some of more “old school” methods.. i.e. string work, piped roses, etc.? Second, if I join using paypal, at the end of the first year, if I do not cancel my membership, do you do an automatic withdrawl for the next years membership?
Hi DJ– Thanks for your interest in our site. We do not have a video on stringwork, but we do have a video on piped roses and other flowers as well as scrollwork, etc. You can see exactly what we offer by clicking on the Video Tutorials tab and looking at the video titles and photos.
Memberships are set up on an annual automatic renewal. This makes the site easier for us to manage (and there is a countdown to auto-renew in the top right of the screen when you join) — You can cancel the auto-renew if you discover at any point during the year that you do not want to renew. There are instructions on how to do this in the Member FAQ section.
I stay in nigeria and is not in your paypal list. How do I pay and register for your turtorial. I’m really interested. Thanks

Hi Gail, I’m happy to hear from you, we have been trying to reach you. Our emails kept bouncing back because there was no “s “on the word tuesday in your email address. Then we thought about adding an “s” just to give that a try. That email did not bounce back …….maybe it went to your trash file. So now let’s get you set up. Hi Brenda, thanks for your interest in the site. There are 2 options, we can send you an invoice that you can pay by credit card thru Paypal (as their guest) without joining Paypal. Another option is that you can pay by mailing us a check or money order. Let us know if either of these work for you.

Hi Lillain, thanks for your interest in the site. If paying through Paypal, that is the way Paypal has it set up. Then you will be sent a link to complete your registration to mycakeschool.com, you will receive a computer generated password that you will want to change, once on the site. If you had rather not join Paypal you can pay with a credit card through Paypal as their guest. You could also send us a check or money order. Let us know if you have other questions.
